Sensor Maestros developed the smMOTN-10 DOF-ST-LSM6DSV32 IMU Breakout Board to provide 9 DOF IMU capability.  We also included a LPS22HH pressure sensor.  Equally important we designed it to measure a mere 15.2mm x 12.7mm .  The LSM6DSV32 utilizes a single SPI interface and directly interfaces to the LIS2MDL 3-Axis Magnetometer and LPS22HH pressure sensor.  Sensor Maestros also designed this breakout board  to be compatible with the smWSP-ARD and smWSP Rapid Prototyping Platforms.  We developed these boards as Arduino and  SiLabs EFR32 and EFM32 STK compatible.

Description

10 DOF IMU Introduction

We developed the smMOTN-10 DOF-ST-LSM6DSV32 breakout board to showcase the 6-Axis LSMDSV32 IMU.  You can use this breakout board for developing 2D and 3D motions sensing applications.  Sensor Maestros originally designed this 9 DOF/6 DOF breakout board for our own internal use.  The smMOTN-10 DOF-ST-LSM6DSV32 IMU Breakout Board comprises of a 3-Axis Accelerometer, 3-Axis Gyroscope, 3-Axis Magnetometer and we included precision pressure sensor.  We are listing the datasheets for these sensors below.

Single SPI or I2C Interface:  LSM6DSV32 is I2C Master to the LIS2MDL and LPS22HH

In addition to keep things simple we designed the breakout board to use a single communication interface to access all the sensors.  We configured the board to use the SPI by default though you can easily change this.  We did this because the LSM6DSV32 acts as an I2C Master and directly interfaces to the LIS2MDL and LPS22HH both operating as I2C Slaves.  This also provides for the ability to timestamp the LIS2MDL and LPS22HH incoming data allowing this data to be synchronized with the LSM6DSV32 data.  Furthermore the common interface can easily be changed between SPI and I2C through the use of solder bridges.  Again keeping things clean and simple by not having to remove resistors.

Applications for this 10 DOF IMU with the LSM6DSV32

Sensor Maestros has worked on numerous motion sensing applications.  We have developed the SFM2 Wearable IMU and FAZR PUCK that automatically measures shot speed.  Our expertise led us to be hired to work on the REPS Smart Lacrosse Ball.  We applied concepts from the SFM2 and FAZR PUCK for this smart LAX ball development.  We also trained a Machine Learning model to detect 5 Skateboard tricks.  Specifically we used 6 DOF data from the SFM2 to train the model.  To capture the data we mounted a SFM2 to the bottom of a skateboard.  We then used SENSR-LOGR app to data log hundreds of datasets of these tricks.  Next we fed the ML algorithm with numerous datasets from different skate boarders.  As a result we were able to achieve >95% accuracy on a blind test.
