Description
H3LIS331DL 400G 3-Axis Accelerometer
Sensor Maestros designed the smACCEL-H3LIS331DL breakout board featuring the H3LIS331DL 400G 3-Axis Accelerometer. We put this high-g accelerometer on a small 12.7×15.2mm breakout board. The H3LIS331DL accelerometer can be configured for 100G, 200G, or 400G Full Scale. We developed the smACCEL-H3LIS331DL breakout board to use a SPI interface by default. You can easily change the interface to I2C using the on-board solder bridges, SB2/SB3/SB4. In addition we designed the H3LIS331DL breakout board to allow separate VDD and VDDIO voltages. By default VDDIO is connected to VDD by the SB1 solder bridge. For separate VDDIO cut SB1 trace and connect a separate voltage to the VDDIO pin. Sensor Maestros also provided access to both H3LIS331DL Interrupt Pins. The smACCEL-H3LIS331DL breakout board can be used with the smWSP-ARD Rapid Prototyping platform Arduino shield or the smWSP. The smWSP Rapid prototyping platform works with any of the SiLabs EFM/EFR32 STK’s with 20pin Male connector.
High-G Accelerometer Applications:
There are numerous applications that require higher G-Force range than 16G or 32G accelerometers. At Sensor Maestros we dealt with many of these applications. Sports applications where a ball or puck is impacted will easily exceed any 16G or 32G acceleration forces. One application we worked on involved placing an accelerometer on a wrist. This was used to determine when the golf ball was struck. Starting with 16G full scale we quickly saw this was not enough. Adjusting to 32G we still saw clipping with some shots. Due to this we moved to the H3LIS331DL. Another sports application Sensor Maestros developed is the FAZR PUCK . Up front we knew we would need the H3LIS331DL. Having this experience we were also hired to work on the REPS Smart Lacrosse Ball . We leveraged concepts from the SFM2 and FAZR PUCK for this development that used the H3LIS331DL.
