Sensor Maestros engineered the smLiPo-702260-10K with a 3-pin ACHR-03V-S female connector — the same connector found on the Arduino Nicla Sense, Arduino Nicla Vision, and Portenta series. Its mating male connector snaps securely into place at just 1.4mm in height, delivering an ultra-low-profile connection. The smLiPo-702260-10K features built-in UV/OV Protection Circuit Module (PCM), actively safeguarding the battery against Over-Voltage (OV) and Under-Voltage (UV) events. A built-in 10K NTC thermistor enables compatible battery chargers to monitor thermal conditions in real time.

Nicla Sense ME, Nicla Sense Vision Battery Connections
The correct answer is NO. While the TI battery charger used on the Arduino Portena and Nicla products can interface to a NTC thermistor it is NOT required for proper charging. Let’s first keep in mind that a NTC is purely to measure the temperature of a battery and monitor is there is a thermal issue. If the battery is not encapsulated or encased in an enclosure the only reason why a lithium battery would get into a thermal runaway is if something major has happened. For example possibly it has been punctured. A NTC thermistor is NOT going to protect against that regardless. Considering the battery already has UV and OV protection where the battery is literally disconnected from the system in either of these events a NTC thermistor is rather superfluous.
